Pendry Hotel, Newport

The Pendry in Newport Beach is one of the first few properties of the new Montage brand. The architectural lighting celebrates the rich interiors and highlights the artwork, shelving and displays. Lush interior planting is a keystone of the Pendry brand and accenting it throughout was important design criteria. The evening ambience begins dimming and warming to a soft, golden incandescence that transforms the spaces into luxurious and sexy venues and circulation. The existing building’s transformation into the project’s vision was challenging at best. There were five different disconnected dimming systems for various areas of the building that had to be calibrated and manipulated to function as one. There were also areas within the main spaces where Title24 did not want to be triggered, which also created extremely complicated solutions to implement a design that didn’t match those existing conditions. Warm-dimming sources were used, even with replacement lamps in existing fixtures, for an unparalleled hospitality experience.
