The lighting concepts for this modern residence centered on creating a warm, comfortable lighting ambience in contrast to stone, timber and hard surfaces throughout. In what could have been cold and stark architectural environment, the lighting transformed the rooms to warm, soft spaces fit for a family. Uplighting and lit ceilings were used liberally to create light and airy spaces and provide soft, indirect lighting. Feature walls were either evenly illuminated to highlight materials or accented for artwork. Creating illumination on vertical surfaces was key to enveloping each of the spaces in light and allowing accents for accessories and display to fill in for drama. There were no general downlights in the residence, as every recessed fixture had a task and a purpose and contributed to the overall scheme of the many layers of illumination. A central dimming system with thoughtfully set lighting scenes aides the owners in fading from one dramatic scene to another.
