The Baishi Ridge “Rainwater Pocket Park" is located in the upstream area of the South Lake Basin in Yueyang City, covering an area of approximately 7000 square meters. This project aims to establishing a pocket park that integrates water purification, leisure function, and habitat restoration.
The site is divided into three areas: the entrance green edge (Area A) , the filter unit (Area B) in the central part performing as the key cleansing machine, and the ecological demonstration area with more surface water (Area C) along the lake shore. A minimalist boardwalk system connects these areas and provides highly variable water-view sequences. Area C, which is adjacent to an important waterfowl habitat forest, incorporates different depths of marsh-flow zones, various native plant species, and waterfowl resting piles while absorbing nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus by algae, biofilm systems, and large vascular plant systems.
The filter system is designed to treat initial 5mm first flush from the upstream catchment area introduced by a 1800mm-diameter discharge outlet, with a removal efficiency of suspended solids (SS) at 80%. The water passes by sedimentation pond, ecological filter, and surface flow zone. Rainwater exceeding standards is discharged into the lake through a green bypass channels.
With a max. Capacity of treating 6300 m3 dirty water per day, this ecological pocket park significantly improves the water quality flowing into downstream Lake and creates an visiting-hub both for citizens and birds in the city.
