The School of Fashion & Textiles (SFT) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is dedicated to nurturing creativity and innovation in fashion and textile education. Our proposal for the SFT Design Studio is centered around the theme "Warp and Weft, Light and Shadow, Teaching and Learning, People and Space." This theme underscores the dynamic relationships between light, spatial organization, collaboration, and artistic expression, aiming to create an inspiring environment that enhances both aesthetic appeal and creative collaboration.

The design features a long, irregularly shaped floor plan that transforms the corridor into an engaging journey. This journey is enriched with various points of attraction that encourage students to explore and unleash their creative potential. The concept of "Warp and Weft" embodies the fundamental elements of weaving, symbolizing how thread and yarn come together to form textile fabrics. A dedicated feature wall will utilize sunlight to cast abstract shadows, transforming the corridor into a striking passage that inspires creativity.

The studio is designed to facilitate both individual and group work, incorporating modular and adaptable furniture that maximizes the use of space. This approach reflects the vibrant nature of fashion design and promotes collaboration among students, faculty, and industry professionals. Instead of traditional desks, we propose a tailor-made modular system called the Fashion Design Student Working Hub. This innovative solution minimizes clutter while maximizing functionality, featuring integrated storage, power supplies, magnetic organizers, and expandable work surfaces.

At the studio's center, a multi-functional space fosters collaboration for activities such as showcase gallery events, seminars, and fashion master classes. Thoughtfully designed lighting layers will adapt to various uses, enhancing the space's versatility.

Ultimately, the proposed design for the SFT Design Studio aims to weave together light and shadow, teaching and learning, and people and space. This creates an inspiring environment that nurtures creativity, fosters collaboration, builds a strong community, and prepares students to embrace the future of fashion and textile design.
