RIVER RESIDENCE

Situated along the Pearl River in Guangzhou, China, River Residence is a transformative interior design project that redefines urban living by seamlessly harmonizing timeless aesthetics, environmental sustainability, and multifunctional utility. Commissioned by an oil painting artist with a profound affinity for the neoclassical and impressionist legacies of the 18th and 19th centuries, this project embodies a thoughtful fusion of historical reverence and modern innovation.
Originally a conventional condominium unit characterized by uninspired commercial interiors, River Residence has been reimagined as a rural-inspired retreat that champions eco-conscious design. At the core of this transformation is the deliberate use of natural materials—most notably untreated wood and concrete flooring—which create a compelling dialogue between raw modernity and organic warmth. By intentionally eschewing synthetic finishes, paints, and putty powder, the design establishes a toxin-free environment that prioritizes the well-being of its inhabitants.
Meticulously optimized natural light and ventilation imbue the space with a serene, biophilic ambiance, seamlessly integrating the exterior landscape with the interior milieu. This approach reinforces the residence’s role as a restorative urban sanctuary while enhancing everyday living through a subtle celebration of nature’s intrinsic beauty.
