Sihui Expressway Service Area is Guangdong(Province in one of the biggest cities in Mainland China) Transportation Group’s first Class expressway service area. The Interior Design integrates the city's jade craftsmanship and Duan Inkstone culture into a unique experiential mall: "Where Four Rivers Meet, Jade and Stone Bloom."
Inspired by the Zhaoqing Duan Inkstone Museum, the interior design presents a commercial space rich in cultural storytelling. At the entrance, the "Return to Simplicity" installation anchors the area’s identity, symbolizing the intersection of four rivers. Parametrically cut acrylic and stone layers recreate the textures of Qixingyan’s karst formations and jade carving techniques, transforming nature’s raw beauty into architectural order.
The space follows Zhaoqing’s landscapes, with four layers of ceiling waves symbolizing the Xijiang, Beijiang, Suijiang, and Longjiang Rivers, while floor ripples mirror flowing water. Greenery and dynamic mountain-scape projections blend together, with Dinghu mist rolling across LED screens, turning the space into an immersive, walkable three-dimensional ink painting.
The smart restroom prioritizes user convenience, featuring metallic linear textures reminiscent of inkstone surfaces and a harmonious contrast between wood and marble, extending the natural aesthetic.
Sustainable materials—including weathering steel, stone, ceramic tiles, and eco-friendly paint—are primarily sourced locally to reduce the carbon footprint and promote sustainability.
