Urban Mangrove Wetland Park is located along the Shenzhen Lovers' Road Coastal Corridor, directly facing Macau across the water and boasting a unique urban view. As the city has developed, much of the coastline has been occupied by infrastructure, leaving only a precious stretch of natural mangrove wetlands. This project aims to leverage the site's challenges and opportunities to provide citizens with diverse activity spaces while maximizing the preservation of the wetland's value. The park will be transformed into a space that integrates urban living with ecological landscapes, restoring the connection between the city’s mountains and sea, and presenting a new urban character.
The idea of creating the space is to integrate urban activities with ecological landscape around the spatial layout of wetlands and sea. Open woodlands, meticulously crafted landform, and wetland waterways form the core interfaces of the park experience. A main road elegantly connects spaces of varying scales, offering rich and flexible options for use by residents and businesses within a one-kilometer radius. The design also considers views, providing beautiful visual corridors for both waterfront strolls and those inside the headquarters building. While it intensively helps to stabilize the shoreline, the existing mangroves on the site serve as a crucial stopover and wintering habitat for migratory birds.
Water is the most important element to experience. The project meticulously designs the landform around the water area, creating diverse spatial levels and engaging water interactions. This approach not only enriches the visitor experience but also provides a more varied growth environment and habitat for plants and animals.
