Mask Batlló is a tribute to the Spanish architectural genius Antoni Gaudí, drawing inspiration from the façade of his iconic Casa Batlló. The designer has fused signature architectural elements into a versatile jewelry accessory that can serve as a brooch, pendant, or headpiece.
The exterior of Casa Batlló is adorned with colorful ceramic tiles, its roof rising in diamond-shaped scales reminiscent of a dragon’s body. The designer employs a masterful invisible setting technique, using square royal blue sapphires to mimic the dazzling effect of the tiles, while black diamonds outline the top hat of the mask, echoing the roof’s sinuous curves.
The cross-shaped chimney, symbolizing a heroic figure, was originally placed at the center of Gaudí’s design but later shifted to one side due to obstruction concerns. This piece reimagines Gaudí’s initial vision, featuring a central cross composed of three pear-shaped diamonds and a round yellow diamond, accented by a chimney-like ornament studded with five colored gemstones, making it the visual centerpiece.
The mask’s design is inspired by Casa Batlló’s distinctive balconies, which resemble both masks and skulls, exuding a dreamlike, mysterious aura. The balcony railings are subtly integrated into the mask’s eye contours, enhancing its enigmatic allure. Graduated sapphires, emeralds, and blue topazes on the mask perfectly recreate the artistic vibrancy of Casa Batlló’s ceramic façade, with the multicolored gems shimmering like a beaded curtain under light—evoking the mesmerizing, kaleidoscopic mosaics of the exterior. This creation interprets a legendary legacy with a crowning elegance, blending regal presence with distinctive individuality.
