Aiyuan Town, located in Suqian City, Jiangsu Province, is a traditional agriculture-based community centered around orchard farming. The town is home to a centuries-old pear orchard with a rich history. During harvest season, it is a common sight to see residents climbing trees with ladders to pick fruit, continuing a practice that has been passed down through generations.

In this context, the ladder is more than just a tool—it is an essential part of daily life and a symbol of local traditions. Inspired by this deeply rooted cultural element, the "Climbing the Ladder – Party Amphitheatre" uses the ladder to open the stage for gatherings and celebrations.

To fully integrate into the rhythms of local life, the design adopts an assembly-based approach. The main structure consists of a wooden base frame, a triangular support system, wooden ladders, steel-wood joints, and tension straps. Residents bring their own tools and materials to the pear garden, collaborating to build or disassemble the structure, forming a mobile, community-driven amphitheater.

The detachable, assembled theater becomes a living device that adapts to the rhythms of the villagers' lives. Ladders, essential to rural daily life, are transformed from simple farming tools into dynamic elements of a theater, elevating everyday activities into communal celebrations.

The theater provides a welcoming space for farmers to gather during their leisure time, watch movies, and perform spontaneously. At the same time, it encourages villagers to discover new uses for the space, revitalizing the pear garden and breathing new life into their community through everyday interactions.

As the seasons change and life shifts between periods of farming and leisure, the theater evolves alongside it. It blends into the original landscape in a humble and respectful way, becoming a living medium that fosters a continuous interaction between people, nature, and tradition.
