Project Description (Taiping Town Lodge Project)
The lodge is nestled in Taiping Town, Xixia County, Henan Province. Its first phase includes a reception center and two residential cabins. The design embodies a symbiotic philosophy, harmonizing indoor spaces with the surrounding wilderness through an "architectural retreat" approach. By blending the structures into the local mountainscape, the lodge achieves a balance of rustic authenticity and refined comfort, offering guests a poetic and immersive escape.
The entrance to the accommodation zone preserves the raw texture of natural caves, creating a sheltered, organic enclosure. Designs that incorporate exposed rock formations not only add rhythmic variation to the lodge’s layout but also enhance its layered depth and tactile charm. Inside the cabins, locally sourced, eco-conscious materials dominate—rammed earth walls and gravel finishes appear to "grow" from the terrain itself, reinforcing a sense of place while appealing to both global travelers and local cultural identity.
The reception center draws inspiration from native creeping vines, reinterpreted through sleek metalwork—a fusion of wild vitality and industrial precision. This innovative touch allows guests to enjoy modern amenities while feeling connected to the land’s untamed spirit.
Across the lodge, the "framed view" technique is masterfully employed, echoing the Eastern garden tradition of "borrowed scenery." Through strategic openings, layered terraces, and sightline choreography, each space becomes a dynamic stage showcasing the landscape. The sloping terrain crafts an atmosphere of intimate coziness alongside vast, open vistas—catering to humanity’s dual yearning for shelter and adventure. Reclaimed timber and stone replicate nature’s textures, infusing warmth while honoring the raw power of the wilderness. The result is a seamless unity of organic form, spatial storytelling, and tactile serenity.
