Centered around the concept of ‘a roaring Chinese dragon in the sky’, this project ingeniously marries the traditional cultural symbol—the Chinese dragon—with meteorology. Drawing inspiration from the Chinese dragon motif of the huabiao (an ornamental column in Chinese architecture) and the Tongliang dragon dance (a national intangible cultural heritage), it combines a spiraling form with sleek aluminum and glass, achieving the collision and fusion of traditional culture and modern technology. This creates a striking visual focus within the meteorological park, where the building’s soaring silhouette harmoniously dialogues with the surrounding natural ecosystem.
The interior continues the design language of the curved facade. Based on the narrative of ‘a meteorological journey through time and space’, it features three exhibition zones—Observation, Exploration, and Vision—that collectively unfold the story of meteorology from ancient times to the future, with an original IP character ‘Dragon Xiaotian’ serving as the guide. Besides exhibition zones, the project also boasts an entrance hall and distinctive functional areas (a hands-on craft studio, a cloud-themed reading lounge, a meteorological classroom, and a rooftop labyrinth) to accommodate diverse interactive needs. Meanwhile, it integrates cutting-edge technologies including interactive projection, virtual reality, 5D cinema, and holography, complemented by the color scheme of white and sky blue, creating an immersive exploration space full of a futuristic, high-tech aesthetic. Additionally, the thoughtful layered layout ensures universal accessibility: gamified educational displays for younger audiences, digital intelligence platforms for researchers, and accessible designs (barrier-free pathways, large-text interfaces, voice prompts, etc.) for older people and individuals with disabilities.
The museum helps to build a comprehensive meteorological knowledge system for the public, with its realistic disaster simulation further raising awareness of disaster prevention and mitigation. As a unique tech-enabled travel destination, it revitalizes regional cultural tourism. Moreover, the project powerfully conveys the philosophy of harmonious coexistence between man and nature, demonstrating its profound social impact.
