Innovatively integrating historical protection with urban renewal, a new cultural landmark has been established between the century-old university and the ecological area of East Lake. The original site of the project was the Third Ring Apartment Area of Wuhan University, which carried the youthful memories of countless students in their pursuit of knowledge. It was also a spiritual haven for teachers and students of Wuhan University to socialize and rest. With the core concept of "temporal and spatial patching", the design team carefully conserved the texture of two historical buildings, reshaped the square and streets surrounded by century-old trees, and presented a symbiotic poem of modern commerce, ecology and culture along the shoreline of East Lake. By connecting the historical genes of the site with contemporary commercial logic through landscape narration, more than 90% of the original trees on the site were retained. Through the integrated design of the pavement, a continuous block interface was formed, and a dual-core theme landscape (cultural core + commercial core) was implanted. After the renewal, it has become a comprehensive project integrating culture, commerce and tourism, creating a destination for leisure, relaxation and socializing, and has become the back garden of Wuhan University.
