Aurora: “Capturing the Aurora in Taipei” is an immersive exhibition that brings the awe-inspiring spectacle of the aurora to the heart of Taipei, seamlessly blending breathtaking visuals with scientific discovery. Through advanced interactive projection technology, the exhibition vividly recreates the vibrant colors of the Arctic sky, offering visitors an authentic journey into the world of auroral phenomena.
The exhibition is structured as a narrative “quest for the aurora,” beginning with the anticipation of boarding a flight north, and unfolding through explorations of Arctic landscapes, cozy domestic interiors, and exhilarating sled dog experiences. This multi-sensory journey reveals the many forms and viewing experiences of the Northern Lights. Hands-on experiments invite visitors to investigate the relationship between solar activity, geomagnetic disturbances, and the appearance of auroras, turning complex astrophysical concepts into accessible, tangible learning.
A highlight of the experience, the “Dance of the Sun” interactive installation, enables visitors to step onto a dynamic platform, simulating the journey of charged solar particles as they race toward Earth. The outcome of this interaction is projected in the main immersive area, generating dazzling, ever-changing auroral displays shaped by participants’ own actions.
More than a visual feast, the exhibition sparks curiosity and wonder about astronomy, transforming intricate cosmic processes into an inspiring, educational, and unforgettable adventure. “Capturing the Aurora Taipei” makes it possible for Taiwanese audiences to witness and understand the magic of the aurora, without leaving their city.
