Inspired by The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, this 211-square-meter residence is a homecoming in every sense. After decades abroad, the homeowner returned to Taiwan to build a space offering comfort and belonging. Like Dorothy, she journeyed through storms and years to rediscover childhood dreams and memories. The design blends the timeless charm of European antiques with fairytale touches, creating a space holding both the weight of time and the rhythm of a personal journey.
The entryway is a symbolic tunnel guiding one from the everyday world into an inner landscape. Soft arches and curves echo the Yellow Brick Road, gently leading the way. Natural light flows through the open-plan living area, while a suspended swing in the master bedroom recalls the child who once soared. In the kitchen, forest-green glazed tiles, brass fittings, and ribbed glass express the homeowner’s love for tactile materials.
The layout was tailored to her routines and needs. Custom cabinetry integrates her art and fashion collections, and flexible wall surfaces allow for seasonal rearrangements. A glass-framed display zone reflects her image as she gazes upon her treasures, reminding her she made it all possible. This becomes a quiet dialogue between inner and outer self, between people and the objects they choose to keep close. The staircase and partitions were designed with openness and lightness in mind, ensuring the home remains visually connected and fluid. The kitchen island and display walls follow her pace and preferences, letting function and feeling coexist.
Materials were chosen for aesthetics and sustainability. Low-VOC paints, modular furniture, louvered shutters, and durable finishes support healthy air and long-term adaptability. Daylight and ventilation reduce the need for artificial systems, giving the home a breathable rhythm.
As she settled in, the homeowner invited friends for tea and art, curating her surroundings with renewed joy. The house became more than a retirement plan. It opened a new chapter of connection, creativity, and quiet fulfillment.
This is more than a residence. It's the continuation of a life story, where every turn holds memory and every space has meaning. It's her way of staying, and of remembering.
