Design transformation Theory: The contemporary expression of Historical texture

The East One Teaching Building of Huazhong University of Science and Technology is an important teaching venue for undertaking teaching and research tasks. It consists of three parts: the main building, the bridge building and the annex building, with a total construction area of approximately 15,000 square meters. After more than 70 years of use, the current space environment is old. The renewal of teaching concepts and models in the new era makes the renovation of the East First Building inevitable.

As a landmark teaching building of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, the exterior facade of the East First Floor has been renovated and restored to its original state. The color and details of the exterior walls are designed to be fully consistent with the original building, preserving the temperament it had during its construction in the 1950s and coexisting harmoniously with the surrounding campus environment.

The interior renovation aims to fully unleash the richness of the space beneath the simple and unadorned exterior. It attempts to break the closed feeling of the traditional single-functional teaching space by restoring the twelve large open classrooms in the East and West Bridge buildings, enhance the mutual penetration of various functional Spaces, and implant open learning/research Spaces. Through spatial forms, it guides more communication and interaction among students and between teachers and students. Stimulate the consciousness of innovation, encourage exploration and critical thinking, and meet the high requirements for teaching space under the educational concepts of the new era. Attempt to create a science and technology innovation landmark with strong recognition and rich spatial forms。
