Rebirth of Structure・Dwelling of Light

This project involves the transformation of a 57-year-old, narrow townhouse in Tainan. The core concept is to “dress the old house in a crisp yet warm new skin.” The design reinforces the structure with H-beam steel and incorporates wood, glass, and vertical screen walls to meet modern needs for light, ventilation, and quality of life. The result is a warm, ordered dwelling reimagined within the city’s aging fabric.

A triangular sloped roof anchors the architectural form, referencing traditional urban house silhouettes while introducing vertical openness and natural light. Warm wood wraps the eaves and interiors, softening the industrial steel framework and bringing a fresh, rhythmic identity to the street facade.

Plants and sunlight form the home’s breathing system. A green vertical wall and semi-outdoor front court integrate nature into daily life. Through this project, we aim to preserve the memory of the house while proposing a context-sensitive and contemporary model of micro-scale urban regeneration.
