The Drum is more than sound—it’s the heartbeat of Baozhong.
Baozhong Township in Yunlin County is a quintessential agricultural village and the least populated administrative district in the region. Though seemingly quiet and unassuming, this land is rich in spiritual devotion and cultural vitality.
From this cultural soil, the Drum Formation was born—now the most iconic local performance of Baozhong. Originating in the 1960s, it evolved from the traditional "Jumping Drum Formation," blending elements of dance, farming life, and vibrant percussion. Through creative adaptation, it gradually developed into a distinctive performance style unique to Baozhong. Originally performed by eight members, the formation later expanded to fourteen, allowing for more intricate rhythms and dynamic formations.
For the people of Baozhong, the Drum is more than a performance.
It is memory. It is belief. It is a living cultural force passed down through generations.
The beat of the drum carries the stories of the land, the rhythm of rural life,
a reverence for the divine, and the emotional bonds of the community.
The Drum is not just culture—
