This residential project combines Nordic design principles with modern elements to create a warm, practical, and sophisticated living environment. Situated in Taiwan’s humid climate, the design carefully addresses environmental challenges and the client’s lifestyle needs, including pet ownership, achieving a harmonious balance between aesthetic appeal and functionality.
The space is rooted in Nordic style, emphasizing natural materials and clean, minimalist lines to cultivate a serene yet practical atmosphere. The TV wall is a key feature, combining cultural stone with sleek tile panels arranged in a rhythmic track pattern, creating a calm and visually engaging focal point. Wood-effect porcelain tiles are selected for flooring, providing the natural warmth of wood while ensuring durability and moisture resistance suitable for the local environment.
Custom cabinetry throughout the home employs environmentally certified system panels, integrating concealed storage and display shelving seamlessly. Door panels artfully mix molded and solid wood finishes, maintaining a cohesive color palette enriched by texture and tactile warmth. The kitchen is designed with durable quartz countertops and minimalist cabinetry to enhance longevity and ease of maintenance.
Louvered doors are strategically used in transitional areas, such as the entrance cabinet, to improve ventilation and introduce dynamic natural light. A soft-close solid wood sliding door separates the living room and kitchen without enclosing the space, preserving an open flow while defining distinct functional zones.
One technical challenge involved leveling the floor at the living room’s dust collection zone where varying material heights met. Titanium strips were installed to bridge height differences, ensuring a smooth, durable transition.
Sustainability is a core consideration: EO-certified low-formaldehyde system boards reduce indoor pollutants, while FSC and PEFC-certified wood panels support responsible forestry practices. Wood-effect tiles mitigate moisture issues common in Taiwan and protect against wear from pets. The use of environmentally friendly cement-based paints further minimizes environmental impact.
Through thoughtful material integration and Nordic design vocabulary, the project achieves a perfect balance between crispness and warmth, delivering a home that is both functionally efficient and aesthetically refined.
