Located along the iconic Silk Road, Lanzhou is nestled between mountains and the Yellow River, forming a unique geographic setting.
The design draws inspiration from the surrounding natural and cultural history. The color palette comes from the Zhangye Danxia landforms—earthy reds, gold, and stone grey—along with textures inspired by stratified rock. Motifs from Han Dynasty bamboo slips, Majiayao pottery patterns, and waves of the Yellow River are reinterpreted into contemporary design elements.
A water feature flows over stone slabs, echoing the form of ancient scrolls. This creates a dynamic interplay of light, sound, and movement, blending tradition with modern aesthetics.
At the heart of the project, a pavilion features a ceiling dotted with lights resembling stars, and perforated screens with Silk Road patterns. This space offers a place to relax under symbolic sunlight and starlight, connecting visitors with both history and nature.
The design combines local cultural symbols and natural references with a clean, modern style, creating a landscape that is both meaningful and aesthetically refined.
