Situated on a corner in Tainan, the café acts as a vessel that gathers the traces of time. Sunlight filters through expansive French windows, casting on the handcrafted woodwork, rattan furniture, and exposed red brick walls. The interplay of light and material slowly unveils a nostalgic atmosphere exclusive to the old city, subtly evoking memories of Tainan's warmth and simplicity. Vintage building materials blend seamlessly with modern design language, gently suspending time between past and present while reinterpreting the city's rich cultural heritage and everyday charm.
The brand journey spans from the outlying island of Penghu to the historic city of Tainan, where one is renowned for its sunlit coasts and ocean breeze, as the other is celebrated for its rich cultural heritage. The design upholds the principle of extending local culture through shared empathy to reconcile these contrasting identities. The space does not replicate the café in Penghu nor impose a Tainan aesthetic and reconfiguration. Instead, it stages a dialogue between people and place, time, and memory. We translate the breathtaking openness of Penghu's natural scenery and blend it into the unique nostalgic atmosphere and life context of Tainan. In doing so, the venue became a cultural bridge between the two places, so that every moment of visit can feel the brand's emphasis and dedication to the local character.
The space unfolds with blue-and-white patterned floorings that organize the traffic flow, guiding customers step by step toward the counter bar along an edge constructed with interlocking wood members and mortise-and-tenon craftsmanship. The design narrative is rooted in the intersection of artisanal touch, cultural signifiers, and brand identity. As the symbolic centerpiece, the bar not only pays tribute to traditional joinery but also reflects the team's intention to preserve a tactile sense of local craftsmanship. The warmth of wood and its structural tension, enhanced with stained cedar cladding, reveal delicate traces of handwork. The blue-and-white tiles extend the brand identity, while rattan furniture and brick textures carry the memory of place.
