ZIXIONGBAO

This project draws its functional logic from the Baishatun Mazu Pilgrimage, a century-old spiritual trek in Taiwan. The design centers on the "Xiangdan" (Incense Palanquin), a sacred wooden vessel used to protect and transport the eternal holy flame. We deconstructed this traditional icon to its structural core, stripping away religious ornamentation to reveal its essence as a carrier of vital energy.
Historically, camellia oil cakes provided the clean, soot-free fuel required to sustain the pilgrimage fire throughout the night. Our design reclaims this physical link by pivoting from carrying the flame to carrying health. We have transformed a ritualistic artifact into a modern vessel for premium camellia oil, connecting sacred heritage directly to daily nourishment.
The packaging utilizes a symmetrical twin-load structure to mirror the physical balance required of palanquin bearers. This form serves as a tactile reference to the endurance of pilgrims who carry their faith across hundreds of miles.
The aesthetic remains intentionally restrained to emphasize visual honesty. Through minimalist typography and transparent materials, we allow the natural golden-green brilliance of the oil to serve as the primary evidence of its purity. Furthermore, the design prioritizes the product’s empirical value. The camellia seeds are freshly pressed within 4 hours of harvest to ensure that the peak nutritional integrity is locked within this modern palanquin.
Under the theme "Mazu Protects Your Health," the design moves a religious icon into the domestic space by reframing divine protection as maternal devotion. By condensing a sprawling cultural epic into a functional object for the contemporary kitchen, the design ensures that the pilgrimage's protective essence is brought home. It is a legacy of care refined for the modern table, ensuring that wellness remains a constant and guarded presence for future generations.
