Hsinchu’s most anticipated family reading event, the 2025 Hsinchu Grassland Story Festival – “Voyage of Reading,” was held with great enthusiasm on September 27–28. Centered on the theme “Technology × Reading,” the festival collaborated with the beloved Taiwanese original IP character “Space Cat Kuroro.” The event presented a diverse program featuring stage performances, themed story houses, parent–child craft workshops, a mobile radio van, outdoor bookcases, reading missions, and a creative market.
Transforming the city into a grand open-air library, the festival invited families to embark on a captivating journey through reading. Since its debut last year, the event has been warmly embraced by residents and recognized with the MUSE Design Award and the London Design Award. With reading as its core, the festival created a shared space for parents and children—where joy, creativity, and imagination flourished amidst the fragrance of books.
Promoting the idea that “Knowledge is Power,” the festival encouraged children to spend less time on screens and more time exploring the world of books. Under the theme “Voyage of Reading,” the venue became an immersive interstellar space station, sparking curiosity and wonder.
At the “Galactic Headquarters” main stage, children showcased their talents in the “Cosmic Talent Show.” Five “Grassland Bookcases” offered thousands of children’s books, while the Story Telephone Booth allowed children to hear authors’ voices and embark on a journey merging reality with imagination.
The “Kuroro Space Radio Station”—a mobile recording van—invited children to experience radio production. Guided by professionals, participants recorded broadcasts and received personalized audio files. Selected recordings were later featured in a podcast, preserving memories of the 2025 Grassland Story Festival.
The “Planet Story Capsule” story house hosted rotating performances by groups such as the Hsinchu Storytelling Association, Open Picture Book Hall, Witch Theater, and others. Sign language–friendly sessions ensured every child could enjoy the wonder of storytelling in an inclusive environment.
