Located beside the Ba River and adjacent to Xi’an Olympic Sports Center, the Chang’an Cloud “Belt and Road” City Exhibition & Experience Center is one of China’s largest science education and innovation venues, setting a new benchmark for next-generation science centers. With a total area of 161,200 square meters, this landmark project integrates technology, culture, and urban life to create an immersive “dream-making space.”
Inspired by the landscape of the Qinling Mountains and the “eight waters of Chang’an,” the design embodies the poetic concept of “flowing clouds and running waters.” The building’s dynamic form, resembling a nebula hovering above the waterfront, symbolizes the fusion of heritage and modernity. It also sets two national records for the longest sky bridge span and cantilever structure in China.
Guided by the principle of “Global Vision, International Standards, Xi’an Characteristics,” the project integrates cultural, scientific, and ecological functions. It houses the Xi’an Science and Technology Museum, City Planning Exhibition Hall, Meteorological Science Education Center, City Art Center, and the Qinling Ecological Corridor—a 160-meter microcosm of the 1,600-kilometer Qinling range. The corridor blends natural topography, flora, and cultural heritage, allowing visitors to experience Qinling’s ecological beauty within the city.
At the heart of the complex stands the Xi’an Science and Technology Museum, featuring over 400 interactive exhibits and the iconic 28-meter-high Möbius installation “Never-ending.” Inspired by the mathematical topology of a single-sided surface, it symbolizes the infinite evolution of human technology and creativity.
Sustainability lies at the core of the project. Locally sourced and recyclable materials minimize transportation and energy consumption, while natural lighting, ventilation, and energy-efficient systems reduce environmental impact. Green plants, eco-friendly coatings, and low-VOC materials create a healthy, ecological environment.
Ultimately, Chang’an Cloud transcends its role as a science venue—it becomes a living urban ecosystem, merging art, nature, and innovation to express the city’s cultural confidence and its forward-looking spirit in the era of technological civilization.
