High School Affiliated to Fudan University (Xuhui Campus)

Located in the heart of the Xuhui Riverside Area in Shanghai, the new campus for the High School Affiliated to Fudan University occupies a site of approximately 20,021 sqm, with a total gross floor area of 36,846.44 sqm. It mainly comprises a comprehensive teaching building, student dormitories, a library, and a gymnasium. Featuring red-brick facades that echo Fudan’s cultural heritage, the campus weaves together tradition and modernity to create a learning environment infused with cultural depth and contemporary vitality.
The design centers on openness and communication, breaking conventional classroom boundaries. Learning spaces extend into corridors, shared staircases, rooftop gardens, and multi-level courtyards, encouraging cross-grade interaction and fostering meaningful exchanges between teachers and students. Strategically placed “communication boxes” at circulation nodes serve as open, modular hubs, sparking spontaneous encounters and learning exchanges.
Elevated above the sports field, the library—envisioned as the “Eye of Wisdom”—emerges as both a visual landmark and an active hub that encourages inquiry-driven reading and deep learning. Specialized classrooms emphasize hands-on practice and showcase, seamlessly connected to activity zones via a network of corridors, forming a fully interconnected campus.
Digital infrastructure and human-centered design elements are thoughtfully integrated throughout the campus. Digital technologies support personalized learning, while features such as optimal railing heights, non-slip stair treatments, and rounded column edges ensure a safe environment. A clock tower stands as a spiritual beacon, while rooftop gardens cultivate nature-based education.
