Recent trends show a growing desire for high-quality living even within compact square footage. Responding to this shift, the project artfully adopts a modern–Japanese blended aesthetic. Instead of conventional wood-grain cabinetry, gentle tones such as milk tea and cocoa beige define the surfaces, while slatted wall panels and carbonized wood flooring establish a grounded, warm base. Together, they agreeably create a setting that feels soft to the eye and quietly textured in character. A reeded-glass partition at the entryway allows sightlines to pass through with ease. Reflections from tinted and black mirrors, along with the marble feature wall, subtly extend the sense of depth—turning a single-sided daylight condition into a space that feels open rather than confined. The result demonstrates that even a small residence can carry a sense of calm refinement, offering an everyday life that is deliberate, warm, and carefully composed. Since the original master bedroom door was placed along the TV wall, the adjacent bathroom lacked privacy. The design team repositioned the entrance to the master suite behind the TV wall to resolve the awkward situation, and a flush-concealed door minimizes the bathroom’s presence, allowing the main living area to read as a continuous whole. Through a client-requested modification, the designer extended the kitchen island to form a more generous working surface between the sink and cooktop. Integrated bar seating and a mirrored appliance cabinet further expand the versatility of the kitchen area, strikingly enabling it to function for cooking, working, gathering, or hosting. The tatami area is elevated on a platform with ceiling grooves reserved for future doors or blinds, preserving flexibility over time. Additional storage for bedding is tucked discreetly beside the bar. Whether used as an open lounge or converted into a private guest room, this corner adjusts naturally to different phases of life—reflecting a thoughtful focus on adaptability within limited space.
With the home serving as both a personal showroom and a lived-in setting, material selection emphasizes long-term health. Applied zero-formaldehyde mineral coatings from Kansai, actively absorbing airborne pollutants to maintain a clean indoor environment.
