A Biophilic and Intergenerational Urban Sanctuary— Inspired by the romantic imagery of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, this project defines the urban forest as a "Utopia" of equality and inclusion. Beyond mere landscaping, our vision is to construct a sophisticated ecological micro-climate that fosters climate resilience, physical and mental well-being, and social integration. The site is located at the intersection of Taichung’s old and new districts—a region challenged by a scarcity of green space, narrow alleys, and social alienation. To revitalize this living environment, we utilized Biophilic Design as a core medium, employing a restorative urban forest typology to dissolve the cold, rigid architectural boundaries of the old city. By actively regulating the micro-climate, the design significantly mitigates the urban heat island effect while providing residents with a sensory-rich ecological haven. Through integrating landscape architecture, seasonal palettes, and natural acoustics, we created an immersive system embedded within the community fabric. Here, residents escape urban clamor to rediscover belonging, as humans and nature coexist in poetic harmony across six zones: 1. The Prelude Plaza: Featuring a generous entrance setback, this plaza serves as a transitional threshold. Mosaic patterns, evocative of blooming flower beds, set a vibrant, welcoming tone for the forest journey ahead. 2. The Garden Promenade: The S-shaped path intentionally slows the pace of urban life. Residents wander through dense shade and multi-layered naturalistic plantings, experiencing the sensory surprises of seasonal blooms and rhythmic birdsong. 3. The Forest Sanctuary: Mimicking natural woodland, this area offers a quiet niche for solitude and contemplation under the canopy's interplay of light and shadow. 4. The Social Glade: The heart of community life. This shaded clearing serves as a social living room for neighbors and a playful area for children, doubling as an outdoor classroom for birdwatching. 5. The Edible Landscape: Abundant with herbs and edible flora, this garden fosters a profound connection between people and the earth, providing elderly residents the joy of seasonal harvesting and accomplishment. 6.The Quiet Sanctuary: A forested corner shielded from interference. By returning autonomy to nature, this zone serves as a vital refuge for urban wildlife and biodiversity.
