TAOYUAN SHIN KONG CINEMAS

Taoyuan Shin Kong Cinemas is a new type of complex cinemas across movies, gourmet and shopping. The design aimed to renew the brand character and to integrate it with new spatial visual identity. The cinema was not only a commercial place; it became a platform to share the lifestyle.

The design strategy was to create various scene experiences for guests. “Travel” is the theme. Every movie is a unique time travel allowing people to experience true emotions through multiple medium in a unique time. Memories of the traveler are the codes that we apply into interior design. The design scenes are base on the memories of travelers yet in an exotic fusion configuration.

The arrival zone of the cinema was the departure train station for time travelers. The split-flap display of the train station indicated the movie schedule. Classical arches and modern reflective materials contributed a false and real vision, not only expanded the visual effects but solve the narrow and tall spatial proportion. The railway track is reflected on the ceiling in a surrealistic way, becoming the design accents and the directional force. Black mirror on both sides reflected the surroundings and guests’ profile, like window reflections on a moving train. Emotionally, we have a break from the reality; in essence, we truly feel that we are on a journey. After COVID-19, we found a new ideology journey through scene experiences of the Shin Kong Cinemas. The narrative space becomes the emotional box of our guests. The cinema is no longer a commercial space, but a place to release the lockdown lifestyle and mood.
