This exhibition uses ""Reflection"" as its curatorial approach, contrasting and presenting the funeral practices of Taiwan's Shisanhang Culture with Japan's Kofun period, exploring the diverse human responses to death through unearthed archaeological artifacts. The design of the tombs, the arrangement of burial postures, and the selection of grave goods all reflect the social organization, belief systems, and cultural values of the time. These actions and objects from millennia ago are not static; they are a cultural language that survives to this day, continually engaging in dialogue with us.
The exhibition is structured around six major thematic zones—""Perception,"" ""Rest in Peace,"" ""Feasts of Eternity,"" ""Ornament with Beauty,"" ""Symbols of Power,"" and ""Sustainability""—laying out the curatorial narrative according to cultural connotations and the cycle of life. Starting from an archaeological perspective, visitors will gradually step into a silent but message-laden historical scene, experiencing the different ways ""the final chapter"" was written across various times and spaces through the flow of the space and the arrangement of exhibits. Artifacts, images, models, and digital interactive installations interweave to create layers of cultural texture, allowing the viewer not just to ""see"" history but to ""feel"" the weight of memory.
The Silent Land Speaks: A Special Exhibition of Ancient Artifacts Dialogue between Taiwan and Japan is more than just an archaeological exhibition; it is an act of cultural listening that spans a thousand years. We gaze upon the ancient sleepers with contemporary eyes, seeking to hear in their lingering whispers how memory and culture transcend conclusion and continue to speak, thus opening another path of dialogue for us to re-understand the continuity of life, time, and civilization."
