Hsu Fu Chi · Crispy Center Candy
Hsu Fu Chi, an iconic Chinese confectionery brand, has seen its Crispy Center Candy become a national staple over two decades, transcending generations and bridging festive occasions with daily life. As the benchmark for crispy-textured candy in China, it has long held a place on the nation's snack list. Amid the resurgence of domestic brands, the packaging strategy centers on "Stability & Novelty." Stability lies in steadfastly honoring the deep-rooted Chinese flavor memory intrinsic to heritage brands—an emotional bond across generations and the brand's core strength. Novelty focuses on aligning with the aesthetics and demands of younger consumers, using contemporary design to engage the current market's primary demographic.
The design draws inspiration from the ancient motif of the "Treasure Basin"—a symbol of auspiciousness and narrative richness. This directly taps into the youthful social discourse around "luck and metaphysics," transforming the packaging from a mere container into a conversation starter. The vessel features a rounded belly and a tapered neck, with clean, flowing lines that feel substantial yet refined, blending traditional craftsmanship with a modern Neo-Chinese sensibility. The label centers on a "golden belt" graphic zone, paying homage to classical paintings like The Night Revels of Han Xizai. It employs an adapted form of traditional Chinese meticulous painting to depict scenes of the candy's creation and enjoyment, merging classical artistry with everyday warmth for a cultural reinterpretation.
Starting from the young consumers' desire for "direct appeal," the design balances strong shelf impact with the social currency of shareable resonance. Ultimately, it breathes new vitality into a heritage brand, achieving both the renewal and the continuation of a classic.
