The project is located on a compact site outside the core area of the Erxianqiao–Balizhuang sector in Chenghua District, Chengdu, with approximately 4,400 ㎡ of landscape in the exhibition area and about 9,100 ㎡ in the main residential area.
Paying homage to Hoshinoya’s philosophy of natural aesthetics, the project creates a luxurious residential retreat rooted in nature. Inspired by Hoshinoya Hotel, it reinterprets classic scenes, fusing the poetic qualities of the landscape with refined cultural detail to give the development a distinctive character and atmosphere. The spatial composition draws on the “eight classical garden-making techniques” of traditional private gardens to create an immersive experience of “shifting scenes with every step.” With the “Bashu Courtyard” as its core, the design weaves natural landscape into the built fabric, achieving a layered layout of “courtyard within garden, and views revealed within courtyard.” It forms a Bashu landscape structure of “one axial spine and five courtyards informed by eight principles,” so that even on a compact site, every space reads as a moving landscape scroll.
Scene 1: Arrival Promenade – Binli Avenue
Adopting Hoshinoya’s “boundary” concept, a choreographed spatial sequence shapes the threshold experience, guiding visitors’ emotions and creating a ceremonial sense of arrival and homecoming.
Scene 2: Ceremonial Courtyard Entrance – Jinglu Courtyard
Continuing Hoshinoya’s “non-everyday” concept, planting composition, entrance rituals, and the imagery of flowing water mark the beginning of a vacation-like experience through layered enclosure and reveal.
Scene 3: Stone Path – Honglin Lane
Drawing on Hoshinoya’s spatial layout and framed-view techniques, an elongated stone path, water over rock, and maple planting extend the approach, staging a slow, processional arrival.
Scene 4: Luminous Glaze Courtyard
Conceived as an outdoor “light box” lounge, the space uses jade-like walls and luminous glazed elements to create a serene, refined transition zone through framed and filtered views.
Scene 5: Yusui Garden
Modeled after the terraced water features of Hoshinoya Karuizawa, the garden compresses mountains, water, stone, trees, and terrain into a compact yet poetic landscape. Maple canopies, moss, weathered stones, and gentle streams translate the charm of Shu landscapes into a contemporary expression.
