Gently curved transom windows in the lobby lead your eye to the center of the natural wood ceiling. The delicate carving of the ceiling was designed to mimic the effect of droplets rippling on the surface of the water. A graceful waterfall creates an auditory experience to set the tone for relaxation as it puddles into a custom carved limestone bowl.
A meandering hallway nourishes the chi flow leading to the women’s wing and massage pods. Circular hand-troweled skylights, babbling water pots, and locally sculpted wall art awake the sensory system. Carved totem poles and locally woven God’s eyes art that adorn the walls pay tribute to the native culture. Cement tile and, what is thought to be, therapeutic, white-washed pau d’arco brings a unique pattern to the therapy pod.
In the lady’s locker room, carved mirrors hung from the ceiling serve to capture light and reflect exterior vegetation. Pendants and lighting were selected to cross illuminate for cosmetic application. Pop-up vanity mirrors provide outdoor views when the mirrors are not in use. A blue quartzite with waterfall sides tops the vanities. In the courtyard, the focal point was established by a 3D wave paneling made by hand shaping plaster.
The motif on the vanity's face in the men’s locker room is derived from the Historical Chileno Hotel. Oversized geometric vessel sinks create rhythm and order throughout the space. Archways were designed to mimic the traditional patterns of the Historic Chileno Hotel.
Light and shade play an integral role in the design of the relaxation lounge. Temperature controlled curved marble chaises, privacy curtains, and the serene sound of the pooling water make the relaxation lounge a favorite spot.
In the marble steam room, rounded edges of both the ceiling and the benches allow for a comfortable experience. Top lit onyx slabs surround an ice station outside the sauna and steam room. The wood grain ceiling-mounted ice chute adds an element of whimsy.
A backlit, heated, Himalayan salt rock wall not only provides health benefits but creates a unique ambiance for guests.
