RE: ALPS HYBRID GARAGE

An auto repair shop is a place dedicated to repairing damaged vehicles and maintaining them for long-lasting safety. This project applies that spirit of "restoration and longevity" to architecture itself.
The site was home to a mundane, traditional Japanese wooden house that had been relegated to a mere storage shed in the corner of the factory grounds. Instead of demolishing this existing stock, we re-evaluated it as a vessel capable of housing new functions.
Our design approach involved a "surgical" insertion of materials. While preserving the wooden columns and beams that have weathered decades of time, we boldly integrated industrial materials symbolic of a repair factory—iron, glass, and mortar. This created a hybrid environment where the organic warmth of the existing wood contrasts with the sharp, inorganic industrial elements.
Through this intervention, a space that was once closed off as private storage was dramatically transformed into a public office, open to the community and clients. Just as a mechanic tunes an engine to give a car a second life, we have redefined the identity of this regional auto repair shop through the power of "Regeneration and Fusion."
