When Pfluger Architects decided to expand into Dallas, they looked for office space that reflected the firm's brand. They found what they were looking for in a former cracker factory in the heart of Dallas' West End Historic District. Not only does the new office reflect the firm's culture and design values, but it also provides an aspirational environment that employs the senses.

Harmony, honesty, and simplicity were the core concepts that shaped the design narrative that honors the craftsmanship and industrial character of the historic structure. Exposed century-old brick and massive timbers reveal architectural strength and stability while celebrating the raw imperfections of the materials. Glazing added to the perimeter harvests natural light and creates a dialogue between the original 1903 office space and the structure that grew around it.

The timbers divide the open floor plan into thirds, and the use of color and materials further define work and collaboration zones. Simple white walls on the north and south walls have expansive natural cork pinup walls that frame collaborative spaces with modular seating. A warm, blue wall delineates the living room with its vegan-leather sofa and layers of lighting that add ambiance and warmth.

Baltic birch plywood millwork creates a separation between public and private spaces. On the public side, it houses a flat-screen monitor and anchors a central conference area. On the opposite side, it creates a nook for the firm's materials library and screens the family kitchen from the larger working zones.

Throughout the office, contrasts between industrial and natural make the space engaging and tactile. Layers of flooring below and lighting above, the mix of textures, and the thoughtful division of space create multiple work environments while maintaining a sense of unity. The quiet and relaxed atmosphere makes work a contemplative, organic, and holistic endeavor.
