Hu Writing

Hu Writing is an innovative functional packaging design for traditional Hu writing brushes, inspired by the Northern Song masterpiece A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains and Huzhou silk damask, a precious Chinese intangible cultural heritage. Breaking the disposable packaging model, it adopts the unfolding mechanism of traditional Chinese scrolls. After removing the writing brush, the packaging transforms into a wall-mountable decorative artwork, extending its lifecycle from a one-off container to a long-term cultural carrier. Developed through iterative cultural-functional integration, it features a modular hexagonal form balancing storage safety, transport stability and decorative display, refined via sketching, 3D modeling and material testing. It addresses key challenges by combining traditional craftsmanship with modern manufacturing, achieving scalable production and green consumption. As an exemplary cultural and creative stationery packaging, it elevates the value of Hu writing brushes, provides a replicable sustainable design approach, and contributes to intangible cultural heritage inheritance and low-carbon practices.
