The South Nanjing Railway Station Project

The South Nanjing Railway Station is the largest railway station in Asia, with a total area of 730,000 square meters, including 387,000 square meters for the main building. The architectural design of the South Nanjing Railway Station has absorbed a large number of classical Chinese architectural elements, such as sunk panel, Dougong brackets, paper-cut and wood grain,etc. So it gives full play to the advantages and characteristics of Chinese palace architecture, and reflects the unique temperament of the ancient capital of Nanjing.

The lighting design of the South Nanjing Railway Station is very innovative.Custom-made lenses are used inside the luminaire to make the lighting more uniform, soft and continuous, so as to ensure that the perfect and comfortable lighting effects can be displayed in different perspectives. For avoiding glare and create a comfortable light environment, we strictly controlled the light angle of the luminaire and added a light shield and other devices on the outside of the lamp. In terms of installation, we mainly used the way of pipeline dark application, and made special treatment for the lamps and pipelines that could not be hidden, mainly to process their appearance color into the same as the architectural color to achieve good hiding effect in the daytime. Meanwhile, we subdivide the operation mode of the project into three modes, including weekdays, holidays, and late night modes, taking into account the lighting effect and energy efficiency.

Through the systematic design and construction of night scene lighting, we have created a unique and distinctive night image of the South Nanjing Railway Station. The lighting level of the whole area is appropriate, comfortable and pleasant, and the design intention of the building is emphasized. By emphasizing the main building and highlighting the characteristic structural elements of traditional Chinese architecture, lighting forms a memorable light and shadow effect. The perfect combination of architecture and history and culture shows the status of the South Nanjing Railway Station as the gateway of Nanjing city and plays a good role in city publicity.
