Recent digital developments in music have nullified the once existing ritual of collecting records and hearing the analog audio quality, due to this there has been a resurgence in vinyl and its allure. We decided to design the trendsetting record player as Black Label Series to meet both new and old generations’ prospects and outlooks utilizing natural materials, a dark color palette and brass detailing.
The design language of Umbra adopts symmetry for eye-pleasing, asymmetry from top view to create a focal point, and geometric that perfectly fits the contemporary environment. Black was chosen because black constitutes and defines classic and timeless. Brass details create not only contrast with matte black, but also harmony with glossy black.
Our intent was to utilize natural materials for the record player body for their contrasting finishes: like marble, concrete, and aluminum. After careful consideration of manufacturing for mass production, we decided to utilize both matte and glossy black finish 6061-T6 aluminum, and black pebble leather, coupled with brass detailing on the platter body and tonearm dial, to complete the Black Label Series.
