O House

This is a two story Japanese style house by rebuilding a vacant house where client’s grandfather used to live in Komatsu, Kozaki Town, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. This memorable site is surrounded by nature like bamboo forest, and located at reaching in about 30 minutes from Narita International Airport.

Client often welcome guests from overseas, and wanted to use it as a guesthouse where the guests can experience the goodness of true Japanese traditional culture and Japanese manner. In addition, it will be used as a weekend house away from hectic work days in the city.

By valuing harmony with the surrounding environment, I carefully treat these things. First, the height of the building is matched with my grandfather’s house without changing the attached site environment as much as possible. Secondly, we planned the house without cutting down the trees that my clients grew together.

Using traditional Japanese architectural styles such as Doma, Inuyarai, pole-rimmed ceilings, and Japanese sliding doors used in existing houses, A simple yet beautiful traditional Japanese technique was added to the house in depth. We also made efforts to contribute to the depopulated area.
