Benny Plate

CoFounder of True Religion, Kym Gold, loves sushi. When she decided to launch her new luxury ceramic homeware company, Style Union Home (SUH), she decided that the perfect sushi plate was an essential piece to her collection. SUH brings fashion to the home in the shape of substantially-designed ceramic tableware and decorative accessories. Organically-inspired designs are brought to life by Gold and then hand-crafted by master ceramicists, one piece at a time. A classic brand with just the right amount of edge, all pieces are handmade in LA.

Since Gold never found such a purposeful way to serve or eat sushi, she handmade the first Benny Plate, a beautiful, versatile ceramic plate including two attached saucer bowls for sides/dips, and grooves to keep chopsticks in place. To make the piece, Gold cut a slab out for the plate, molded the two saucers and made slip, a mix of water and clay, to form the pieces together. Then she smoothed the clay around the parts, let the plate dry, set it up for bisque and glazed the Benny Plate. Coming in Blanc, Noir/Gloss, and Noir/Blanc, the Benny Plate adds a chic touch to any dinner table, while holding all you need on one plate. Although sushi sparked Gold’s sleek design of the plate, one can also venture out to serve charcuterie, fondue for dessert or other snacks and dip.
