DERRICK revolutionises the mechanical automaton tradition

While the first automatons were introduced in the late 17th century already, DERRICK is arguably one of the most spectacular interpretations ever.

A streamlined and modern version of this pioneering concept is presented today. Its originality lies in a device representing a derrick used to extract crude oil that comes to life while the watch is running. This creative, playful and technical oil pump mechanism adorns the front of the watch. Its uniqueness lies in the pared-down nature of its depiction featuring only its quintessentially distinctive and traditional elements. The result is a strong and refined image, whose animated cycle is repeated three times a minute. Achieving this technical feat called for an avant-garde and extremely light material weighing just 0.082gr. The automaton was therefore entirely made from brushed aluminium. It draws its strength from the watchmaking mechanism itself, the real driving force behind this model as a whole. Two wheels are visible in the background of the derrick, and the wheel at 6 o'clock serves to read off seconds on a dedicated segment.
