The villa was designed with the “wabi-sabi” style, which is based on the oriental aesthetic philosophy. The aesthetic emphasizes a simple inner nature. The objects inside the space can withstand the test of time and eventually present their essential beauty. The plain-colored walls, log boards, marbles and terrazzo were treated with particular craftsmanship, so the overall materials in the space showcase a matte texture. The rough appearances as well as delicate and natural details capture a sense of age and a narrativity of the architecture.

The interior living space retained the original style of the architecture as much as possible. Pearl white and dark wood colors were selected as the primary color palette. The hues bring about the aesthetic synesthesia both in sensory and spiritual aspects. Large areas of blank walls sets the bright, clean and simple tone for the space, thereby strengthening the perception of human into the spatial framework and order. The furniture made of natural materials such as wood and bamboo was also added to the space, whose natural grain and texture exude natural and austere quality of “wabi-sabi”, thus illumining an ideal life with the bright visual effects.

The details were vigorously designed and the asymmetrical principle and efflorescent elements were adopted to embody imperfection. Such a style is more likely to produce a visual beauty and showcases the objects and people as they were over time. And that is what the charm of “wabi-sabi” and the vitality of space lie. Those old condiment trays, self-tone accessories and scattered fabric cushions coexist with and complement the space. The white walls carry the traces of time and emanate artistry in the air.

Old articles made of cotton, linen, rattan, old wood and clay as well as newly purchased objects were combined to be applied to the space, which display the quintessence of the plain aesthetic. The visual focus of people was fixed on materials and structures in the space and a humanistic aesthetic was finally presented to them.
