The trigger for the project was a request from the Derren company to develop the unique accessory using patterned high-quality steel. The design of the Ostrota was born as a symbol of the evolution of humankind, going from rough stone to precision steel. During the project, it was analyzed a variety of wearable knives, accessories, and jewelry. It was decided to abandon the image of a classic knife and convey the experience of the first ancestors using natural materials in everyday life. The research objective was to learn more about wearable accessories and get visual inspiration such as objects, shapes, and textures. In the studio were made several sketches and final designs based on those inspirations.
The design is based on the uniqueness of the damask steel pattern and the natural relief of a stone knife handle. The knife can serve as a functional wearable accessory or be a decorative item for aesthetic enjoyment. For exhibiting the blade, it is equipped with a minimalist design stand. To preserve the natural beauty of the stone, Ostrota is not painted in any color. The Derren company, an expert in steels and alloys, has suggested high-quality material for product development. Damascus steel was chosen for the material of the blade, which is distinguished by its exceptional strength and uniqueness of the pattern. The handle of the knife can be made of granite, quartzite, marble, or basalt.
