Chengdu DoThink Luhu Cloud Villa

The project is located in Tianfu New District, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. It faces Jinjiang River in the west and is less than 100 meters away from the river surface at the nearest point, with a broad water view. The red sandstone layers forming in eons of time raise the whole site by nearly 30 meters, creating the advantaged viewing highlands. The open water in the distance and the terrain provided inspiration for the designers, who decided to deconstruct the building with the concept of "yacht aesthetics". The yacht elements were extracted and reconstructed to form the architectural body. Curves and oblique lines were used to shape the flowing sense and simple temperament of the building. Meanwhile, the designers cut the volume, divided the space, and used the cascading design language to create an interesting space inside, making the whole building smarter.

A 30 meters high column, 3 meters in diameter, supports the main building at the bottom. The cantilevered column echoes the mirror-like waterscape. The surface of the column is covered with stainless steel, and its outer layer is coated with a silver silk-thread-like curtain. Through the change of light and shade, the whole architecture forms the trinity of "The Boat of Tianfu", containing the water curtain, mirror water feature and Jinjiang, and brings a strong visual impact. The first floor of the exhibition center is equipped with a large area of light-coloured glass curtain wall to make the indoor and outdoor spaces communicate with each other. And the outdoor terrace is very wide, like the deck of a yacht, where guests can lean on the railings overlooking, or sit, practising meditation.

The design transforms the geological features of red sandstone into a design language, using similar materials as decorations at the entrance and corridor. The new and the old, the rough and the delicate. The visitors can feel the track and trace of time and the texture of the thick stones through vision and touch.
