PARALAND SERVICED HEALTH APARTMENT

The project is a serviced health apartment development for the elderly, located in New Jiangwan Town in the northeast of downtown Shanghai. The design and execution of interior decoration was completed by GT.DECO. With past days as the design thread, the project extract elements from the local historic landmark Fairmont Peace Hotel, integrates Art Deco with old Shanghai style, and combines traditional and modern elements from outdoors to indoors. It adopts dark green and burgundy hues that represent old Shanghai, elements of cheongsam buckles as well as geometric, fan-shaped and radial forms typical to Art Deco Style, to show the modern fashion and avant-garde sense of Shanghai Art through modern approach.

The project resorts to scene creation methods to display symbols of Shanghai from the 1930s till now and set the overall spatial tone. The varying scenes based on spatial sequence represent the

marks of different eras, creating a sense of belonging and emotional resonance for the elderly.

The furnishings especially desks and chairs show thoughtful ergonomics and elderly-friendly design.

Sharp corners of desks are removed and hooks are added on the sides for convenient use.

Lounge chairs are brought into the space to help the elderly sit down and stand up more conveniently.

Considering the above special needs, the project increases the sitting width of chairs and adds back cushions for supporting the waist and neck. Even the elderly wearing thick coats can sit on the sofas very comfortably.

The corners of armrests are rounded, which is safer for use. Hooks and drawers are added to the sides of desks in calligraphy and handicraft classrooms, making it convenient to store personal belongings.
