SOMA

This project is SOMA’s regular chain located in Taipei. Compare to the branches opened in America and Singapore that mix local elements, this shop have focused on delivering the brand’s image. A smooth and transparent traffic flow is created delicately, while arc design techniques are applied to outline prisms, open-end counters, glass door frames, linear lighting, walls, etc. At the same time, special paints with characteristics of mottling and unorder changes are used to soften the lights of the wall lamps. With the blue tiles, metal sidebars, and linear slots of the counters outlining, a modern yet elegant vintage atmosphere is infused into the shop. Furthermore, the spatial is applied with artists’ capsule hanging paintings selected and placed in other branches. Hanging paints that are arranged by capsules orderly have smoothly turned items into art. The overall is arranged by a smooth traffic flow and is divided into a retail area, a drink mixing area, a pick-up area, and a resting area according to the shop’s requirements. At the same time, the expansion of different materials in the same tone has continued the traffic flow towards the specially planned waiting area and hallway. Through harmonious planning, the designer has eliminated unnecessary spatial waste and achieved to maximize space usage. Furthermore, trees and plants are planted along the staircases outside the shop; the designer hoped to establish the concept of sustainability and circulation for the environment, the design, and the society. This space is a new configuration concept store that sells exclusive beverages and coffees. Different from other branches, this SOMA branch is optimized from its spatial, items, and designs and is expected to combine SOMA’s brand essence with spatial structure. The precise traffic flow arrangement, vintage color tones, metal decorations, lightings, and curve-shaped elements have harmonically delicately mixed elegance and modernity within the space.
