Textile

This is an urban renewal and renovation project. Under the background of urban renewal, designer has carried out a comprehensive study on the history and geographical features of the textile industry in Deqing Town. On the premise of respecting history, the original cultural style was retained and used, meanwhile, the modern design techniques was used to reinterpret the regional elements and create a modern urban art center that spans the boundaries of time and space.
Project has been divided into two major areas: the historical exhibition hall and the community art center. The Community Art Center is a youth art activity center which also functions as a library integrating learning, reading ,while the historical exhibition hall is mainly used for display and promotion of the history and culture development of Deqing textile industry, which also express the designer's awe of this old factory building that combines the spirit of Deqing textile. This space also can be used as a venue for various artistic activities in the later and let the people who come here feel the story and inheritance of the space.
The main body of the space follows the architectural structure of the old factory. Used the architectural symbols of the broken lines to integrate the building into the interior forming an organic unity, which likes an art gallery that exists in a box. The combination, reflection, refraction, fission and deformation of the box were combined, and the traditional construction is combined in a new scene with the methods of fracture, dislocation, distortion, and contradiction. The line-shaped roof makes the space more visually malleable, and the light strips above the reception desk follow the roof, as if a huge textile machine allowing the space cross through history and lead people to regain the memory of history.
