An old industrial space is converted into an aquaponics farm that is part office, part grow room, and part showroom. The active farm uses movable racks to maximize production within minimal space. Pipes and cables are integrated into the system to deliver nutrient water from fish tanks to the plant life, and walls of LED provide low-energy lighting. Excess water is filtered and returned to the water tanks in a closed ecosystem. Flexible and functional bi-folding glass panels allow part of the office to be converted to a private meeting room, or alternatively opened up for an expansive space. Erasable paint applied to walls create writable surfaces throughout. Height-adjustable desks and ergonomic chairs respond to different working environments. Software developed specifically to monitor the whole process is displayed on a TV wall. The design is the culmination of different industry specialists coming together – agriculture, technology, interior and lighting design.



Efficiency and flexibility are key to this urban aquaponics farm and office project. A scalable modular system, the farm uses movable racks to maximize plant growth. Design solutions are used to create a small, but efficient and flexible office area. The design is the culmination of multidisciplinary collaboration.

The nature of the project is unique, current and forward-thinking. Responding to our global crisis in resources, the project tackles the principal of ‘efficiency’ in space, resources, utility, usability. It does not easily fall into any one category: a pioneering project combining elements of interior and lighting design, hardware and software development, and sustainable farming methods.
