Hydrogel is a sustainable substrate that can be used independently for growing plants. With its ability to hold and retain water 100-200 times more than its own weight, absorb and give off liquid fertilizer, and provide a non-messy substitute to digging around in the earth, it is an ideal alternative for growing indoor house plants that saves natural resources such as water, peat, and sand. Furthermore, Hydrogel comes in a variety of colours and shapes, a key aspect that has been definitelly incorporated throughout the packaging design concept. The surface of the packaging is decorated with Congreve embossing with either circles or squares, reflecting the different form which the hydrogel can take. Delicate hand-drawn line illustrations depict flowers in pots and vases with the hydrogel in use at the bottom represented as colourful forms that match the embossing. By using a clean, white background and single line illustrations the attention is drawn to the colourful shapes that reflect the hydrogel product within. The concept demonstrates two packaging options - one litre sachet bags for one pot or a cardboard tube containing ten sheets intended for several pots, both of which come in six colour variations and made with sustainable materials.
