BASEMENT MUAY THAI

Muay Thai originated in Ayutthaya 500 years ago. It is a kind of boxing with a strong regional style. Therefore, the designer started from Thai culture and landed a fashionable boxing gym with an ancient Muay Thai atmosphere in a modern city.

The BMT Financial City store is the third store of this boxing gym in Nanjing. Th e project is located on the first floor of the second phase of the Financial City in Jianye District, Nanjing. The space is built into two elliptical training venues by steel frames. The large venue is used as a training area for group lessons, while the small one is used as a training area for personal training. The designer used the original height difference of the same floor drainage on the site to place the two training areas at different heights, so the group training area looks more like a sunken training venue.

Warm-up is an indispensable preparation process before exercise. The designer creates a circular runway around the team training field, and at the same time fills it with sand below. Around the training area, the designer builds a circle of brick walls. The material is inspired by Ayutthaya in Thailand.

The enclosure of the training venue with a sense of installation structure, with a variety of texture materials, plus red breathing lights, constitute the spatial temperament of this boxing gym.
