Oriental Fairyland

The detached three-storey courtyard house in Weinan City, Shaanxi Province features a combination of local natural landscape and cultural context, which are translated into the spatial theme “Elegance • Song Style”. The interior decoration design presents an integration of exquisite temperament of Song style and concept of modern living, and shows the designers' further creation on decorative articles such as paintings. In addition, the design team drew inspiration from classic artworks of Song Dynasty, to interpret details and the overall space through contemporary languages.
Considering the specific situation of the site as well as the master planning and landscape of the residential community, the privacy of the overall space gradually increases from bottom to top, with 1F and 2F functioning as socializing areas for enjoying tea and hosting banquets while the top floor accommodating a private bedroom suite. As the style and theme of each floor were positioned specifically, the designers collected a variety of textual and graphic data regarding philosophy, furniture, painting and tea art of Song Dynasty to provide a thorough and comprehensive support for the design. In the end, the team created a series of aesthetic scenes defined by the tones of Chinese ink-wash paintings and natural textures, and meanwhile brought in original articles to add to the spatial ambience.
The design pursued the integration and symbiosis between space and environment in an effective and sustainable way, by using natural and recyclable materials (wood mainly and metal as a supplement). The design team simplified the construction procedure to negate environmental impact, and optimized spatial layout to introduce natural scenery and abundant daylight in a bid to reduce energy consumption while ensuring a pleasant living environment. The upholstery of furniture is made of environmentally friendly artificial microfiber leather, which is waterproof, fireproof, wear-resistant and dirt-resistant, hence realizing an artistic, humanistic style in interior furnishings and meeting the requirements for environmental protection and economical aspects.
