Usually, a grocery store is just a grocery store… a utilitarian place where shoppers aim to get in and out as quickly as possible. The GIANT at Riverwalk changes that game. When The GIANT Company broke ground on its urban flagship store, it aimed to create a glass-enclosed epicurious destination that encourages lingering and enjoying.

Open since March 2021, the two-story store invites guests not only to shop, but to stay and play. In the heart of the city, uniquely located beneath a residential tower boasting 313 luxury apartments, GIANT at Riverwalk brings the outside in with large windows on the East, West, and South sides of the building. The store welcomes shoppers into a grand atrium with a colorful mural, soaring ceilings, and natural light pouring in from the 36-foot-tall window. Above the escalator that leads to the main floor, a bright white light-up sign glows with the store name in block letters.

Moving through the space, shoppers find a 65,000 square foot store infused with warmth, texture, and brightness. Columns throughout the venue were necessary to the building’s structure, but also double as sites to promote select merchandise. In addition to everything you’d expect in a high-quality grocery store plus sought-after local goods, the GIANT at Riverwalk specializes in on-premise food and drink features.

A food hall offers freshly prepared meals and treats, from tacos to sushi and salads to sandwiches, pizzas, and gelato. As these are meant to be enjoyed in-store, an adjacent Beer and Wine Eatery provides a comfortable place to dine. To create a full dining experience, there is an interactive, self-serve tap wall featuring over 40 craft beers, wines, hard seltzer, cider, and kombucha.

Doors from the Beer and Wine Eatery lead to a picturesque, industrial chic 3,565-square foot open air terrace complete with strand lights, greenery, lounge-style furniture, high top tables, and fire pits. The terrace overlooks Philadelphia’s scenic Schuylkill River and a bike trail -- making it one of the city’s most desirable places to enjoy a drink, a bite, and good company.
